“The first book that I received while I was incarcerated was from my mother. It was called 'Hinds’ Feet on High Places' by Hannah Hurnard, about a doe in the forest that had gotten lost and separated from her family. The book was about a journey through the forest alone and dodging dangerous situations. That was my mother’s way of giving me something to hold on to. It was the first book that sparked an idea of liberating oneself from a situation.” #BannedBooks #Arkansas https://arktimes.com/arkansas-blog/2026/03/02/as-arkansas-weighs-a-prison-book-ban-formerly-incarcerated-readers-share-how-books-reshaped-their-lives

To understand what’s at stake, we spoke with formerly incarcerated Arkansans about how books helped them free their minds, finish their education and shape their futures.
