Statement to Provide if Approached or Detained by ICE I am a citizen of the OGLALA LAKOTA NATION, a federally recognized Tribal Nation. Under the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, all Native people born within the territorial limits of the United States are recognized as U.S. citizens by birthright. ICE has executed a woman in a suburban neighborhood, on a Wednesday morning. She wasn’t the subject of any legal investigation. She was there as a peaceful legal observer. She was there to protect her community from exactly this. ICE claims in its own mission statement that the whole point of the organization is to “ensure the safety of the public and our communities.” In what world does this ensure public safety? I can’t see how a community could possibly be protected by the same people who are actively coming to kill them. Until and unless there is legitimate accountability for these thugs, they will continue to operate as the American SS. They’re the real domestic terrorists, and no amount of spin or propaganda from this administration will erase this horrifying stain on American history.
