Olympic skating is interesting as a benchmark for bicycle performance.
Track skaters have pretty much only their own drag profile and a super-slick set of narrow blades with near-zero resistance, pointed the right way. Well over 50 km/h, all competitors, under their own power on a level surface (two accelerations each end in the turns).
Now consider cycling cruise speed, even under ideal conditions, how much effort is spent running the machine itself.

The old Debenhams department store in Bristol has been turned into an indoor skate park called "Shredenhams". Lots of little kids crashing about in the morning, and teens/adults in the evening. Great use of vacant urban spaces.
