For years, as it railed against Iran’s nuclear program, #Israel seemed held in check from confronting #Iran militarily. It feared that #Hezbollah, Tehran’s political ally & proxy army in #Lebanon, would respond on Iran’s behalf, unleashing its arsenal of thousands of missiles & rockets & raining hellfire down on Haifa & Tel Aviv.

Now, Israel & the #UnitedStates own the skies over Iran & are steadily blowing up its ballistic missile infrastructure & arsenal.

Across Iran’s capital, #Tehran, explosions rang out overnight as the #US & #Israel pounded #Iran with airstrikes. Iran & its allies have hit back against Israel, neighboring #Gulf states & targets critical to the world’s #oil & natural #gas production.

On Tuesday, the Israeli military hit #Beirut with more airstrikes & said it had moved additional troops into southern #Lebanon & taken new positions on several strategic points close to the border. The #UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon later said its peacekeepers saw Israeli troops making forays across the border & then returning to #Israel. It wasn’t immediately clear if any soldiers remained inside Lebanon.
