US judge tosses #Trump challenge to #NY immigration-related #law
A federal judge on Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit the #DOJ filed challenging a New York law that the Trump admin said was impeding #immigration enforcement.
US District Judge Anne Nardacci in Albany rejected the DOJ's arguments that a NY law that restricts the ability of the Democratic-led state's #DMV to share vehicle & address info with federal immigration authorities violated the US #Constitution.
The lawsuit took aim at a #state #law known as the #DriversLicense Access & #Privacy Act, or the "Green Light Law," which the state enacted in 2019 & allowed migrants in the US illegally to obtain driver's licenses.
The #law directed the state's #DMV to accept various foreign documents as proof of identification & age for standard licenses & barred the state agency from inquiring about the #immigration status of applicants.
