AFAICT #Trump dismissed #Machado as the next leader because while she is not perfect, she is probably the most widely respected and popular politician in #Venezuela, because she is the least corrupt. And thus would reject deals that favor US oil companies over the interests of Venezuelans.
Balancing useful market incentives and helping all the people live decent lives is hard. Maintaining democracy while everyone sees the world differently and prioritizes their own interests is hard.
I post about these types of figures early and often bc we know how the US will use these types of people to manufacture consent.
The real trick of Machado is that she' holds a few "liberal values" by some US standards that some Americans may be fooled into believing she represents some sort of progressive support of US intervention.
Machado is ok with gay marriage & abortion only in case of rape or medical need. She likes public schools.
Still a fash tho.
