The #US has finalized its withdrawal from the #WorldHealthOrganization, one year after #Trump announced the US was ending its 78-yr-old commitment….

But it’s hardly a clean break.

The US owes >$130 million to the global #health agency, according to #WHO. And Trump admin officials acknowledge that they haven’t finished working out some issues, such as lost access to data from other countries that could give America an early warning of a new #pandemic.

The U.S. has finalized its withdrawal from the World Health Organization. Federal officials announced the completion Thursday.

The withdrawal will hurt the global response to new #outbreaks & will hobble the ability of #US #scientists & #pharmaceutical companies to develop #vaccines & #medicines against new threats, said Lawrence Gostin, a #PublicHealth #law expert at Georgetown University.

The #WHO is the #UnitedNations’ specialized #health agency & is mandated to coordinate the response to global health threats.

I'm just gonna note that scientists tend to underestimate everyone's cognition except their (our) own

i just have to reflect on a thing i just have seen, which is the part of my #climate bubble (which are #scientists, among them one complexity scientist) still with their account on #X effing debating to "bring back science on #X" to then proceed debate with an obvious bot for an hour straight.

some of my ex-comrades are really a very special kind of stupid.
