The Stump And The Hump

On our way to Skaftafell, we parked at a pull-off on Skeiðarársandur to admire the mountains under a perfect clear sky.

This is Hvannadalshnjúkur¹, at 2110 m/6921 ft high its summit is the only ultra-prominent peak and the highest point in the country. The glacier surrounding it is the ice cap of Öræfajökull².

Evening Light

Heading towards Siglufjörður for our hotel that night, we paused at a parking spot to admire the late light and the northern sea.

The mountains on the opposite side of the fjord looked lovely in the warm sunset, contours exaggerated, and the small houses on the promontory were picked out by the orange sunlight.
