Let's talk about midi controllers, how do you work?

I used to have an 8 track control surface mixing with a lot of faders, knobs and my hand on the transport controls and nudge-wheel. But when I started doing sound design, I took this Ableton course, which moved my workflow into 98% mouse and keyboard, so I rarely reach for a controller anymore.

I do miss my Faderport2 for automation and setting levels during mix though (I still have it, but there's no room on my table atm.)

@mosgaard I have a BCF-2000 (8 faders, 8 knobs, 16 buttons).

I love it for performative work on a given patch and performing it into the DAW ( #BitwigStudio). Most of the rest of the time I am happy on the mouse.

This is a test of a possible walk-through style video showcasing what my #ShermanikFilterbank for #BitwigStudio is able to do. In this instance I've made a quick ramble through using it without gates or triggers (pretty much as a twin peak filter), but with some LFO.

The video is also my first time using #KDenLive - it is totally usable, and I was able to fix a bug thanks to the excellent #KDE support side.

Mind your ears.

A short walk through demoing the possible uses of my Shermanik Filterbank preset without gates, or triggers. We see the Bitwig Studio UI and the preset at the bottom with all its different knobs for controlling it.

Anyone interested in using my #ShermanikFilterbank #BitwigStudio preset may also find that downloading a copy of the Sherman Filterbank manual may help them to better familiarise themselves with my preset.

A few features are missing (hardware wiring, the octave/quint, and tracking), and have added some features that I've written up.

Updated to v4.4.0 (and v4.4.0 EX) on 06/02/26 - now with corrected Sens response (unipolar vs bipolar).

The EX variant is a double-staged filter version for extra "bite", and you can blend the second stage in to suite your tastes. I also added a performance panel where a button lights up to indicate when the gate is active. I like this because I don't need to open the patch panel to see this anymore. Basically it's like having an LED showing the gate.

Do you like #BonkWave or #NotBonkWave ? Do you use #BitwigStudio for #ElectronicMusic ? Would you like to try my #fxGrid interpretation of the #ShermanFilterbank ? Then head to my website and check out what I have to offer. I've written up instructions and you can download it (built with Bitwig Studio v4.0) for free at:

For #BoardsOfCanada fans out there, you might be interested in this gem from 1996 as 'liberated' by an interested party and made available for enjoying through YouTube. This is called "A Few Old Tunes" and apparently, as the story goes, an original cassette was purchased at great expense from a music store, and then digitised with the finest contemporary techniques.

This is one of those places where #qpwgraph could be employed to play YouTube directly into #BitwigStudio to allow one to bootleg their own local copy.
