I hear you. And I've only heard (but not personally seen) of "old timers" being hostile in particular to black voices when they came here from Twitter. It sucks that people are like that
What way forward to you see? Are there things we could do (cultural? technical?) to make this a more welcoming place? I'm very interested.
I've blocked and ignored my share of trolls, too, but I'd love to have a really great silver bullet for this.. ESPECIALLY as we continue to grow
@benpate @jcriecke @mousey Outside of being white, there is no silver bullet in the fedi.
I built #thebadspace to improve making moderation between communities easier and that has had some success, but there is still resistance when Black folks specifically use them to protect our spaces.
If anything, I think the culture here needs to be more vigilant of the anti-Blackness in the fedi that is a lot more persistent but I have no idea how get white folks to care about anything outside of themselves.
That鈥檚 a job for white people.
The rest of are just trying to navigate a hostile space.
