Iran's #internal problems are also greatly #exaggerated and #weaponized by the #West. Or blaming the #national government for #local or #societal problems.
Most of the #stereotypes people have about Iranian society (and the #MiddleEast broadly) as #repressive are based on actual laws in US-ally #SaudiArabia.
The Saudi #regime benefits, too. Their #abuses get to be seen as "just a Middle Eastern thing all countries there do". So they don't get held to #accountability.
And frankly, the Westerners who bring up the #Balochistan and #Kurdistan struggles in Iran, or the hijab #laws, or the #criminalization of homosexuality, mostly don't really care or know anything about it. They aren't engaging with those #struggles on the terms of the people impacted. They only see what they want to see, to justify hating Iran.
Otherwise they wouldn't be justifying the #USA and #Israel dropping #bombs on Balochis, Kurds, Iranian women, and gay Iranians.
