Half Dome Spring
Yosemite National Park is truly a national treasure. No picture taken or painting painted that can capture the true beauty and feeling that one has when first visiting this magnificent National Park.
This was captured on a warm spring day. There is still a small trace of snow on top of and on the face of Half Dome and a small amount of snow in the shadows in the valley.

Half Dome Spring

The scene opens with Half Dome rising like a carved monolith of pale granite, its face catching soft spring light that makes the stone glow with a cool, silvery warmth. A thin lace of lingering snow clings to the summit and traces the shaded creases of the dome, adding a crisp brightness that contrasts with the darker, weather‑worn streaks running down its face.

Below, the Merced River slides through the valley in a smooth, glassy ribbon, reflecting the mountain in a slightly rippled mirror. The water carries the energy of spring melt—quiet but insistent—its surface shifting between deep greens and muted blues.

The surrounding ground cover still holds the brown, winter‑flattened tones of a forest just waking up, creating a warm, earthy base that makes the fresh blooms and bright granite feel even more vivid.

The air feels clean and cool, touched by the scent of thawing earth and fast water. The whole composition carries that unmistakable Yosemite sensation: a vast, serene stillness wrapped around a landscape full of quiet motion and returning life.
