Absolutely disgusting. 😤 Your blood will boil if you read this article; stories of humble people not asking for much, being penalsed & traumatised by auto-algo-AI-slop-stupid & weasel words about ‘fine-tuning’ the system: "It's quite inhumane” is the least of it.🤬
New Minister Sam Rae does not cover himself in glory either - pathetic response. 😤
Hard to believe this is happening so recently after Robodebt & that the public service bureaucracy & the federal govt & indeed other govts have learned so little! Perhaps it’s because no one was adequately punished for Robodebt? ‘AI says No’ has become the excuse of the day. 😤

@nullagent because AI agents due to their indeterministic nature never really leave testing phase?
She said she had a separate testing environment where it seemed to work

An Artificial Idiot led by a Real Idiot[TM]: “She said she had a separate testing environment where it seemed to work” (key words in that sentence? “seemed to work”…)

@luciedigitalni Pocock told us tonight that Labor had spent 15 months and nearly $300,000 handpicking a dozen experts to sit on a panel to look at safeguards and opportunities around AI..... then cancelled the whole thing! He had no idea why. Sigh...

Ok…. Now it makes sense… what Prof Toby Walsh was saying in his address to the National Press Club yesterday. He was really pissed off & basically said he no longer felt constrained & would give advice in public in future (ie not in private to govt). Also explains Albo’s seemingly gratuitous badmouthing of Pocock. I suppose a ‘donation’ is about to fall off some big-tech AI-pusher’s truck & into party coffers…

ABC cited Walsh: "Big tech has embraced lobbying in Washington, London, Brussels and now here in Canberra," he said.

"In the last election the big tech sector donated more to the political parties than mining did. That should tell us something."

AI expert warns Australia is unprepared for 'supercharged' harms

Renowned AI expert Toby Walsh has used a National Press Club address to warn the Australian government about what he argues are inadequate approaches to regulating the technology.
