Watching the 1st #DoctorWho serial, which starts with the pilot "An Unearthly Child" (which is Susan, of course) and then moves on to a literal "caveman" story with a lot of Shakespearean sensibilities, some very ahistorical notions about early humans, and 20th century notions of the "thin veneer of civilization" over cruel savagery.
As if altruism were artificially imposed (by whom?!), rather than an integral aspect of human nature.
All consistent with pop-philosophy and pop-science of the early 1960s, but it really shows how much these perspectives have changed.
But we know that even mice exhibit altruistic behaviors. And we know that "savage" humans *invented* civilization.

Isn't it brilliant living here in the socially perfect twenty-first century where we once and for all know finally know exactly what is right and wrong and how to behave and think with no fear of being looked down upon by future generations on account of our crassness and stupidity.
#DoctorWho #OfItsTime #sociology :-)
