PSA: wax-based and oil-based colored pencils is a meaningless distinction. There's a ton of misinformation out there by artists parroting what they've heard from other misinformed artists.
Art supply companies don't want to share proprietary recipes publicly, so we'll never know **how much** oil and what kind is in what they refer to as "oil based" pencil, and there's no official definition of what makes an "oil based" pencil, so just ignore it.
@lovewin @Tealfuleyes "oil" colored pencils are not at all different from "regular" high quality colored pencils. Brands use it as a marketing distinction. All high quality colour pencils contain waxes and oils in the binder, and there is no logic to how hard, soft, opaque, or transparent pencils are based on whether they're marketed as "oil based" or "wax based". There may be a difference in how well they respond to solvents (OMS, Gamsol, alcohol, oil).
