@ZhiZhu oh great. So the eventual thermonuclear strikes that destroy the globe will happen for the dumbest, most forseeable reasons of all.

@ZhiZhu The most US Navy's latest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, started construction in 2005 and was delivered to the Navy in 2017. It was first in her class and had the benefit of being based on Nimitz-class — developing a whole new vessel would take even longer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Gerald_R._Ford

Even if they started construction today, it would be well over a decade before any of this new "golden fleet" sailed, and hopefully Congress would find better ways to spend the money before then.
