Looks like we'll either have to go down the Mylk and Sheese route and call them sozzijes and bhergas, or fully embrace the cyberpunk dystopia we find ourselves in and go with protein discs.

When is a sausage not really a sausage? Ask the meat lobby | George Monbiot

European legislators may ban plant-based products from using the name to prevent ‘confusion’. Just don’t mention beef tomatoes or buffalo wings, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

@afewbugs There is a brand of fake meat in the US that abbreviates the thing they're imitating with randomly-place apostrophes. Chick'n is fine. Saus'ge is a little weird and confusing to pronounce. F'sh is the punchline to a very silly joke. The worst, though, is that they call their ground-type protein stuff "Be'f," and "Bef!" has become a sort of inside joke amongst my fake-meat-eating friends. Mmm, delicious bef.

@solipsistnation @afewbugs

... They called it "bef"? A "meat substitute" called bef?

Ohhh that just tickled me xD

(For those that don't know, look up Bef in the Dutch language)

@Aprazeth @afewbugs @solipsistnation When I saw that reply, I started laughing for that reason too. The last food item name that happened with was when a friend told me about Poppycock, described as “a decadent blend of light, fluffy popcorn and premium whole nuts — all covered in a sweet, indulgent glaze.”

Pffftttttttt oh wow

These companies must know - they **have** to know. And I love them even more for it if they do, and did it anyway.

@afewbugs there is only one way to stay healthy : eat less. Just the minimum that should be a handful portion. During this festive periods, who could remain healthy? At the same time the pleasure of a nice table, sharing meals with friends and family is an “incontournable”.

@clarinette respectfully, "just eat less to stay healthy" is probably one of the most harmful things you can say to women in this culture, especially around the holidays. This is the message women get their entire lives, irrespective of how much they're currently eating and how their health would change if they ate less of it. It can be a very triggering message too to people who have experienced eating disorders. You have no way of knowing how much a random person you are

@clarinette responding to is eating or how much psychological damage the conflation of a woman's health with thinness has done to someone. I really would not lead with this sort of comment when responding to someone you don't know
