SysVinit vs systemd on #Debian #Linux 13 Trixie. #ThinkPad T480. It's a default install with KDE Plasma.

Your browser does not support the video tag.
Race of init systems. SysVinit is slightly faster

@darth The one caveat being that you can't quite do a default install and get anything other than systemd. How did you do it, out of curiosity?

My preferred method is debootstrap of minbase followed by some pinning and installation of the rest.

This is fairly ugly - it suffers from the fact that it works well enough for me to use myself. I'm slowly rewriting it to be cleaner and simpler, and will post the refactored version when it's ready:

Codeberg.org

install-debian-zfs-sysvinit

Install Debian on ZFS, with sysvinit, optionally encrypted.

@mason it's just one apt line which I copy pasted from Debian instructions (find the word Trixie): https://wiki.debian.org/Init

@darth Ah, alright. It bothers me having to install systemd only to uninstall it again, hence my debootstrap/minbase approach, which installs sysvinit from the start.

The end result is much the same.

There were a couple things they didn't mention on that Debian wiki page, so I've updated it.
