Everyone has an opinion about creativity and AI—as though it’s something new and novel.
But as long as we’re asking about whether art can be made or derived from prior works:
What about collages? What about sampling? What about quoting? What about parodying?
What about fan fiction? What about remix culture? What about mood boards?
What about works derived from public domain? What about libraries? What about spellcheck?
What about presets? What about filters? What about cameras?
No one’s opening those cans of worms. Because if they did, they’d have to admit the implications go far beyond AI.
