I’m very happy about wiping Mastodon completely away from my infrastructure.
My criticism of the direction of the project and its leadership are pretty well known so I won’t get into it and, quite frankly, I’m just tired of dedicating mental space to it.
GoToSocial has turned out to be a great option for how I want to exist in the indie social media space. I’ve had some conversations about Bonfire and there is a lot of excitement around that as well, so I’ll be giving that a look soon.
I won’t go as far as to say the future is bright in the fedi because of the persistent desire to make this space a monoculture, but I will say it feels like some creators are learning from the many mistakes that have come from a desire to emulate centralized platforms.
I can’t lie about how intrigued I am to see how far that goes. And with the rise of independent ATProtocol instances, there are some real alternatives forming that should push AP based projects further.
Next year is going to be… interesting.
And I like interesting.
