Annual 'Hogfather' rewatch. It may not be perfect, but it's a solid adaptation of one of my favourite Discworld novels, and despite lacking Pratchett's brilliant narration and its visibly low-budget 2006 effects, it carries the book's spirit, and its message, almost intact. The scene with the little match girl and Death's speech hit every time.

Not sure the TV movie is something I'd suggest to someone not familiar with Discworld instead of reading the book. A few bits lack nuance, and it's probably hard to sell the fact that a story involving a giant skeleton who is the anthropomorphic embodiment of Death dressed as Santa isn't an edgy holiday-themed comedy but one of the most tender and deeply philosophical works of fiction, but I have seen reviews of people who never read the novels and still loved it, so what do I know.

In the end, it still hits all the right heart strings as a tale about how ideas evolve, take form, and become reality, and how imagination, creativity, and hope are integral parts of humanity. About the importance of choosing to do whatever kindness is within your power, and the power of belief. Not in some religious dogma, but in ideals, the possibility of goodness, and in things that don't (yet) exist, so they can.
