Apparently someone can't say "Linux" without getting a lecture about "No, it's GNU/Linux, you stupid!"

And people wonder why Linux is only at ~5% market share on Desktop...

It's all about how welcome you feel: If you feel like you've just "invaded" someone's "holy place", then this doesn't feel so welcome, does it!?

now, I'll concede that snapping back, like some probably do, is probably not the best way to raise the awareness that GNU deserves for having started and developed most of the GNU/Linux operating system.

however, it's ludicrous to suggest that GNU/Linux hasn't grown so much against established monopolies because of the few who take issue with the mislabeling and point it out, dismissing the huge market manipulation effected by the dominant powers.

BTW, if you use the term "Linux" to refer to the kernel named Linux, that shouldn't be a problem at all. the problem is referring to GNU, combined or not with Linux, as if it were all Linux. Linux is the freedom-depriving kernel that runs underneath Android, and one of the (freedom-depriving, unless you use GNU Linux-libre) kernels that runs underneath GNU.

you know... it's not really cool to insult those of us who've made such a great freedom-giving gift as GNU for you, by referring to it by the name of a freedom-denying kernel dominated by people who attempt to erase our contributions from history. your complaint feels like "shut up and don't complaining that we're calling you names, we don't care and we don't want to care" to me.
