I've now downloaded both OpenBSD and ElementaryOS.
Which one should I install first?
the visual contrast between the two websites is giving me whiplash
First problem: There's a cat on my lap, and the target laptop is out of reach
OK, the OpenBSD install is in progress, after I managed to turn off SecureBoot.
As for setting up a WiFi interface, we're saving that for later.
The OpenBSD installer is sure taking its sweet time.
But then it's exorcising the demons of Win10 Pro from the hard drive. During a final check, I got at least 5 different advertisements pushed on me by the OS, in under 10 minutes.
How do people live like this?
aw fuck, now it wants to install software. From the internet.
Does this mean I have to get up and find a network cable? What is this, the 90s?
Started a new install attempt.
Had to re-image the thumb drive. On the first attempt, I somehow managed to install OpenBSD on the installation medium, rather than on the target machine's hard drive. That's a first.
I have to say that the Disks utility in Gnome makes preparing installation media a total breeze. No more futzing around with Balena Etcher and such.
oooooh now we're actually installing software. Er, sets.
we're *still* installing sets. OK fair, the install image was only 800MB, so the rest of the OS clearly has to come from somewhere.
I'm pleased to report that OpenBSD respects the convention of making all progress indicators so inaccurate as to be effectively random.
Now the installer is "relinking to create unique kernel" ah go on you special snowflake
@slothrop beep …… doo deedoodeedoo
@slothrop it probably needs to sterilize the flash.
