@neil I was tempted to try a step in this direction a couple of years ago. I mainly use an 8" Android tablet rather than a smartphone and came across a €50 Nokia feature phone that could serve a WiFi hot-spot & Bluetooth (essentially how I operate now). Forget why I didn't go ahead, but it may happen in 2026. Phone first then tablet. Then Linux phone 🤞

Six months until we know if the new Jolla phone can be. I am expecting it to work though from the data I've gathered so far.
@troed @justincrozer I have not had a positive experience with Sailfish so far, but I will be interested to see how others get on.
@justincrozer @troed I mean, the experience is already pretty good, but definitely not 100% there.
I pre-bought the new Jolla since I believe independece from US controlled software/OS to be critical for European self-defense. As long as the Android emu framework runs the id and banking apps I* should be good.
De-googled Android is a more mature system, but sadly if Google turns off the faucet we're unable to keep developing it ourselves.
*) ... and just as with Windows vs Linux I believe "good enough" will suddenly just happen for the general population too.
@justincrozer That is definitely part of why I'd pair it with a basic phone with a solid telephony stack.
@neil What hardware/physical phone do you think you'll use? Today I was window shopping phones, cuz my Pixel 4 is showing signs of its inevitable death. Im honestly considering cobbling together my own hell out a raspberry pi and stuff.
@TommyTorty10 OnePlus6 for postmarketOS. Basic phone, I don't know.
