Software engineering is in an interesting place where some of the most accomplished engineers in the industry are effectively saying their job is now just telling AI to write all the code, debug it and fix the bugs.

Some of this is obviously marketing hype from people who are selling AI tools (Boris works on Claude Code) but this is the current mindset of the industry.

@carnage4life

Yes. I'm noticing a pattern.

The industry loves to embrace a new sexy tool, and tell me I now have charge them less for my expertise.

Every decade, someome new informs me that practically every computer problem has basically been completely solved, and maybe I should just work for free, now.

They tell me that understanding how computers work - is about to go out of style. Computers just work correctly for everyone, now, after all.

Oh, and could I just take a quick (preferably free) look at one last final lingering issue, before I go into early retirement...?

I would just laugh, except that I use the Internet, and it seems that large portions of the Internet are intermittently failing in new ways, while someone tries to teach an AI how to do expert levels of site reliability engineering rather than pay someone who knows how.
