Wow I really hate Alan Wake 1, I got it to play Alan Wake 2 and because I liked Control, but it's such a slog. Can't even get into the story because the gameplay parts are so frustrating in a non fun way.

@paul Alan Wake 1 was a real chore to get through. I just wanted to see how it ended!

@paul the plot of AW1 is summed up in AW2 in the most clever and entertaining way in video game history.

@paul Skip it. The Alan Wake story makes so little sense that you don’t need to play the first one in order to enjoy the second one. Which is better but still pretty frustrating to be honest.

@paul I've tried again and again. It's just the kind of gameplay I like, and it feels very Xbox 360 in a way I can't shake. Excited for Control 2 though!

@paul if there’s one story-based series where you ought to skip a game, AW1 is that game.

@paul I played it last year for the first time and it was one of my favourite games ever. 🤷‍♂️

I feel like that whole connected universe is a masterpiece. It was so refreshing to play a game that isn’t just the exact same game reskinned like every other console game these days.

It showed its age I suppose, but I thought it was worth it. You will definitely get more out of the larger story if you play it. But you get a summary version in Alan Wake 2.

@paul Yeah, and it's not an aging thing, it played like that at release. 2 is much better in most respects.

@paul That’s a common opinion.

Just dive into 2. I finished 2 and don’t feel like I really needed to experience the first one to enjoy it.
