This anthropomorphized framing of Grok in the media (claiming that Grok has "apologized") only serves the interests of these tech companies. It gives the appearance that some entity has taken responsibility for what is happening, when in reality no one has. https://www.usermag.co/p/is-anyone-going-to-take-accountability

Is anyone going to take accountability for this?

@taylorlorenz Yeah most classic media tend to be bad at doing the right thing and call out tech moguls instead of sugarcoating them. All for the clickbait or ‘interesting’ scoops.

@taylorlorenz They are all hiding behind interfaces that prevent human contact. Best strategy is not to use X and similar US platfirms.

@taylorlorenz thanks for writing this. it's frustrating to watch "grok apologized when asked" get taken like it somehow changes things by big media.

@taylorlorenz

You want accountability for Grok-the-sofware's unrestrained ability to create porn?

I'd start with the guy who owns the company that pretends "Grok" is a living creature, and has more agency than anyone who's ever worked for him or Donald Trump.

@taylorlorenz Corporations aren't known for accountability. Occasionally their stockholders (and employees &/or clients) take a bath, but rarely ever the leadership responsible. 🤷‍♂️

@taylorlorenz the transfer of agency to a bot via anthropomorphic framing is insane.

@taylorlorenz Grok is the rocket that blows up in Wil E. Coyote's face, and media is treating Grok like it's the Road Runner that cleverly eluded his attempts to wrangle it to his will.

@taylorlorenz

Related: I just got duped (for a few minutes) by a deepfake video of Rachel Maddow on YouTube.

only subtle body language cues gave it away. My suspicions were confirmed when the channel was taken down, but how many folks saw it and were duped?

Youtube is becoming twitter, and we need an alternative

we need a dependable peertube source for news, folks.

who can link a few here?

@taylorlorenz We need to label these products, like "Microsoft Office". The company that produced them should be named whenever the product is named, especially when reporting on the harm caused, or the ineffectiveness of that product.

It would be like if Google (the corporation) did something bad and journalists began quoting headlines that came up in Google search results as an official corporate response.

They need to thwart any legislation, guidelines, or guardrails on AI, hence the BS.

A favored narrative is "Rogue AI". It's heavily used in Wall Street circles, rogue algorithms & rogue traders. It's a horseshit tale of tech gone Qrazie.
