@mousey hello to Seattle! I have been on the Fediverse for about 2 years, then started an instance for my business last year. Now trying to set up my first public server... Glad for any suggestions!
@carsten There's a lot smarter people than me on this topic. Mostly someone *knows* someone who's being on-boarded in our instance (it's a social network, not a public bathroom), but policy is entirely up to instance admins. That's good and bad news, since, what's good policy?? I can't answer that, my advice is more practical, avoid letting (random) bots join, vet as many new accts as you (and your team(?)) encounter them, Ilke, they should pass a Turing test at least. And ban Nazis, asap.

So far its been low adoption but its been good and ive met some good folks.
At first I was putting up fliers around town but then got busy with other things. I am thinking about doing that again this year for the anniversary. Help my neighbors learn that you CAN leave corporate social media if you choose. :D
