Now I'm getting random ARCs in the mail. Never heard of this author, nor publisher, before, but it was nice to get a random ARC in the mail! This book does sound amazing but I can't find a DRM free EBook version anywhere.

@WeirdWriter @bookstodon DRM was a big part of the reason I gave up on NetGalley for ARCs, it was just too restricting to be able to read only through their phone app.
@ljwrites @WeirdWriter @bookstodon I was wondering if NetGalley is worth it to promote my book, given that this year I want to get into self publishing... What other platforms are there to reach to reviewers with ARCs?
I'm not the best person to ask because everything is done via a mailing list and a cloud drive folder. I make everyone tag themselves with something such as PR or ARC etc and then I send a folder link to everyone with multiple formats and just delete the folder on publication day, so not the best system, but NetGally just seemed to be overly complicated for wanting to get reviews. I was like, even if they don't review me, if they give my DRM free Epub or whatever to someone, fantastic! If it's via a publisher, even an indie publisher, I direct everyone to the publisher but I am gonna check out that link soon. I've been wondering how to find other indie authors and this looks fantastic! Some also just post their BookFunnel links here and I catch them that way. @dilmandila @ljwrites @bookstodon
@WeirdWriter @ljwrites @bookstodon I might have to adopt both strategies, use your mailing list trick especially for people whose emails I have and they perhaps are not on any of these platforms. Thanks for the tip!
One thing I'd recommend is, if you're like me and write in markdown and plain text stuff, make sure stuff is in at least an EPub and a PDF, or at least a Docx. I tried sending ARC readers a text file, yes, a plain .txt file, and you'd be amazed at how many wrote me back and said they couldn't load it onto their Kindles, etc. I'll never make that mistake again! I thought plain text was supposed to be universal! 😊 @dilmandila @ljwrites @bookstodon
@dilmandila @bookstodon Oh I think you'll like BookSirens @WeirdWriter , lots of queer romance though I generally splash around the nonfiction and occasionally poetry pool. Not as sure about romance with disabled protagonists, but they might be there if you really get into the romance feed which I'm sure is a firehose.
Oh do you see audiobook arcs on there? Sometimes my audiobook buddies, folks in the industry, will send me random codes, but it would be nice to have an official place so I don't have to puppy dog eyes for an ALC, advanced Listener Copy, every time one of my audiobook boyfriends or girlfriends or people friends narrates an upcoming title yet to be released. 😊 @ljwrites @dilmandila @bookstodon
@WeirdWriter Nah I think BookSirens is a text-only site. Some sites & services do turn up if I look up audiobook reviews, but I don't know any of these services well enough to recommend them. Interestingly, some seem to go by a different model than NetGalley or BookSirens, relying on a limited pool of reviewers rather than having a reader review system
At that point I'm not sure it's much better than just handing out audiobook download codes tbh.
@dilmandila @WeirdWriter @bookstodon NetGalley could be worth it, I understand there's a big audience there though it's not for me. My go-to is BookSirens https://booksirens.com/ which is very indie-friendly and has personalized feeds (something else NG lacks), but there are more choices out there!
@ljwrites @WeirdWriter @bookstodon Thanks, will check it out! NG rates are also a bit too steep, but this seems like a more affordable option, especially for someone just starting out with self-publishing. And I like that people can subscribe to your ARCs without them charging more.
I would love to read and review your book on BookSirens @dilmandila , I'm pleased with my experience there as a reader/reviewer and the service seems solid at driving reviews on crucial sites like GoodReads. I hope you'll publicize on here as well if you get your ARC on there, since I might not see it on my rather specific personal feed! @WeirdWriter @bookstodon
@ljwrites @WeirdWriter @bookstodon I'm bookmarking this, so will surely send you a link once I'm ready, or even email you a copy. I was actually going to ask for beta readers from here since with self publishing I don't have the advantage of an editor giving me feedback, so if you are up for that as well... They are novellas, so quick reads (I hope!)
