I’ve been #gardening (again). And - having more time than previously - I’ve been a little organised. I mean - not crazy stuff like really planning where plants will go or anything. But planning all the same. So lists and timings for sowing in the greenhouse and then planting out. I have no idea if I’ll manage to keep to it but… it’s something.
Keep wondering what I’ve missed. Hey ho…
But so far so good: potatoes and sweet peas are out. SPs were planted in Oct and have grown a load…
Sweet peas will start in October but the best advice I have seen is to sow them in December. A lull in the early part of the year is probably not doing them much good and they will tend to become leggy. Continuous growing from a later start avoids that and they should transplant better.

@lionelb well yes. I do take note as well of what the Gardeners’ World lot do and their timings. I pinch out the leading shoot to make them less etiolated - which seems to work well. And then the just sit there and sulk for a bit when planted out - whatever time of year - and then go for it in late March I think. I’ll mix morning glory seeds in there too but direct sowing because they are more drought tolerant and keep flowering through the whole summer… #gardening
@lionelb @MCDuncanLab are you thinking of the wild one - we’d call it bind weed? The one I’m planting is an annual - picture in my bio in fact. I collect a bucket load of the seed every year - and replant in the spring.
Apparently the seeds are fairly strongly trippy/halucinogens if that’s your thing! Never tried tho
Cobaea is amazing but it seems to be much happier on a damp, shaded wall outdoors, rather than in the greenhouse.
@lionelb yes - I have the purple cobaea scandens growing up my garage wall. It’s an absolute thug! But it flowers for about 10 months a year so I keep it.
a guide for near-me has *three* planting calendars— a one page summary to plan backwards from harvests to planting, a bigger calendar in half-months with more detailed planting and transplanting times.
And a chapter for each month. If you’ve been away you just look at your month and it says what’s happy planted now and what tasks are timely and what ecosystem things are particularly observable.

It's good to see all this, and I should get started as well. I have a few bulbs that should have been put in the ground early December but too much was going on at the time. Will you post pictures of the Heliantus Giganteus if you manage to find the seeds?
@pascaline I know it’s a proper luxury and I’m just not thinking about personal financial stuff right now (a luxury to be able to do that even). But it is unbelievable to be able to stop for a bit… I was chatting recently with @fkamiah17 and she made the point about wage slavery being very shit… I’d never really considered it properly until recently. Completely right of course!
