I get so annoyed by how both MSM and clickbait indies like Meidas Touch, cover the protests, the general strike.

“Protests erupt…”

1. Lead with a date & time on your breaking news you just released especially if after the fact.
The “erupt” part makes it sound chaotic, violent, spontaneous, now…instead of calm, nonviolent, planned, yesterday.

They choose this framing bc they want the fire.

@JoBlakely I assume they make the opening vague so they can use “BREAKING NEWS!!!” graphics all day long for the same stale news. There was a piece some time back where the author asserted that creating ‘outrage’ was the sole point of cable news, not actually reporting news. Outraged viewers stay tuned in and return for additional doses of outrage.

@MarkAB

Some creators, mostly men doing this tbh, do it so much, they are so unreliable as distributors of information and waste our time for their profit. Yet they are among the most popular and get funded.
Sometimes nothing the clickbait headline references is in the video. Not a word.

The women creators I follow do not do this. They might be vague at worst, but do not misrepresent the video or the facts.

I experience the same: everyone collapses and all things are bombshells. Dumb stupid clickbait. The effect is that I stopped visiting these channels. They lost me, and many others too I think.

I hate it so much. Those kinds of indies are the most popular or funded…but reproduce all the harms they pretend to counter while really being another op.

I can’t stand Meidas Touch. The clickbait that sucks & wastes our precious time and energy, platforming Cohen & Wolff instead of women’s voices esp. on those topics. They are too hungry for scoop & access, & have no discernment about the reliability of the narrator. They are just as opportunistic for the story, money, access & salaciousness.

There are politics creators who don’t use clickbait or hyperbole. They make $ not feeding the toxicity for more $.

Meidas is greedy like Midas.

@JoBlakely I can’t stand that channel either. I often get it as a recommendation, but I have completely stopped clicking on the videos. Even when there is a big story, they never really have anything worth while to say.

@sacha
I wish Charlie Angus didn’t join them. He was better without ‘their help’. He felt more authentic and from the heart instead of some media trained for marketing department. He sounds like like he’s making content, not really giving us insight, speaking from the heart on issues he really wants to talk about when he wants to, how he wants to. It’s like his heart really isn’t in it.

I don’t know. I just was really excited by his energy before he joined Meidas, but after he felt flatter.

@JoBlakely This is a good point. The language used is everything. And some outlets have an agenda that veers from the basic journalistic one.
