It's convenient to think that boycotts don't work because then we can just keep buying whatever we want. But boycotts often do work. As recently as a few months ago pressure was put on Disney for suspending Jimmy Kimmel. There's a much longer history of successful boycotts. Ever heard of Rosa Parks?

Of course, #Apple is HUGE. Even more reason to stop giving them all the money. No one forces you to buy a new iPhone every other year or subscribe to AppleTV.

If Apple-focused YouTubers and podcasters are actually fed up and as disgusted as they often profess to their audiences, they should step over the line and actually call for a boycott. There's no shortage of reasons at this point. Start naming specific grievances, list them out. Repeat them. And use the word boycott over and over.

Move on from criticism. If ever there was a time for #tech media folk to actually take a stand, 2026 is that time. Passive "reporting" helps #Apple. Do better.

If you're an #Apple user that doesn't like Tim Cook's fascist booklicking and if you've seen enough of Apple's increasingly fucked up conduct, stop giving them your money.

- Stop using Apple subscription services like Music, AppleTV, etc
- Move your data out of iCloud. Start gradually, find other services (YES, they do exist) and gradually downgrade your iCloud plan.
- Stop upgrading hardware. Use what you have until it no longer works. You don't need the latest, greatest new thing.

And while we're at it, let's remember, #Amazon, along with many other US big tech companies has contracts with DHS and #ICE, fucking #boycott them too. Trust me, you can survive without an Amazon account. Delete it.

This applies to all of the. No US #tech company that is working with, supporting a fascist regime should be given any support by those that oppose #fascism.

We can do this. We can survive and live without their poducts/services. It DOES REQUIRE EFFORT.

For folks looking for Cloud services and storage, consider Proton. I know plenty of nerds will say self-host NextCloud, but I'm speaking to people that don't want to self-host. People that want something as easy as iCloud or Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.

@dennyhenke The problem I see is that you quit an ecosystem to enter another ecosystem. I used Proton for nearly 8 years and never went farther than the Proton Mail plus subscription. When I closed my gmail account nearly a decade ago, I chose Proton because it was private and not an ecosystem. Now they're becoming one and it's something I don't like (that and the AI products).

@ArcMother The Maga/Trump linkage to the Proton CEO seems to have been way over-blown and mostly out of context. Link attached with a lot of detail.

I think Cryptpad is great but it's a fairly different offering from a package like Google where folks are likely going to want integrated cloud storage, collaboration and email services all in one package which Proton offers. Tuta and Cryptpad would be a nice combination.

@dennyhenke I've been using a paid Google account for way too long and up until Andy Yen went on his pro-Trump rant in January 2025, I was planning on finding a way to replace Google with Proton. Now, I have no idea what to do.

@joe I'll see if I can find it but I'd read a thing about that and in the end it came off to me as over-blown. Regardless, given the conduct of Google, I'd still much rather give my money to Proton. Put on the scales of known behavior, Proton still seems the far better option both in terms of user privacy as well as any possible damage being caused.

Proton Drive would be at the top of my list. For $10/month you get 500GB and all the other services they offer. Email, VPN, custom email addresses. Includes document sharing/collaboration. The have a cheaper 200GB plan and 2TB plan too.

All private and encrypted, based in Europe. I'm using their email. I keep all of my files in my own local cloud but will probably upgrade to the unlimited plan later this year for collaboration with clients.
