@dennyhenke I struggle with the reflexive “us versus them” framing that creeps into these conversations. Once everything gets reduced to enemies and villains, the discussion stops being useful. That kind of mood leads nowhere good.
@khurtwilliams At this point there is a decidedly us VS them thing going in the US. I see it in very stark terms and while I'm aware that there is nuance in life, a gradient, at the moment what mattes most to me as that a fascist government is brutalizing my fellow humans. CEOs like Tim Cook and companies like Apple are going along to protect their interests above and beyond anything else.

@dennyhenke I hear what you’re saying. I tend to put more responsibility on major shareholders and the system that rewards certain outcomes. CEOs are highly paid employees with a narrow mandate — growth, profits, share price — and if they push back against authoritarian governments in ways that hurt the company and shareholders, they rarely remain CEOs for long.

I'm unwilling to do that. Not only is he not pushing back but he is going out of his way to slobber all over Trump's boots.
But, also, I'm unwilling to accept the rules of capitalism. I'll admit I'm anti-capitalist. 100%. For exactly this reason. Capitalism and its leaders have NO allegiance to democracy, human rights, liberty. Their allegiance is to shareholders and profit.
Even if that means supporting fascism.
@dennyhenke I don’t dispute your anti-capitalist critique. My point is that Cook is behaving exactly as capitalism trains CEOs to behave. Treating him as uniquely culpable risks confusing a systemic problem with an individual one.

@dennyhenke It might be worth pausing to see whether that playlist was user-created or actually curated by Apple. The intent matters.
