🧵. Some photos from a day out in North Antrim at the Glens Red Squirrel Hide, photographing whatever came to visit. I got loads more pix of different birds; missed the Dunnock, Blackbird, Jay and a few others; thrilled to see Longtailed tits for the first time; and get a neat little red squirrel; the chaffinch are very agressive with each other, and sometimes others. #Photography #WildlifePhotography

A classic picture of a female woodpecker - on a tree stump . She has a black cap, buff face, chest and throat, a red rump, and black & white across her wings.

Woodpecker sitting on an old stump looking to the right, listening. She was excavating for grubs here. Buff chest, neck and face, with a black cap, and a black pattern line extending from her beak to the back of her head and down part of her neck.

A song or mistle thrush has just dug up a grub and is about to grab it with an open beak. The bird is soft brown with creamy markings underneath.

And a few more, featuring the long tailed tits on a feeder. I’ve never seen them before, and hope eventually to be able to photograph them on a tree or in flight sometime. Plus Ireland’s favourite little mammal - the Red Squirrel, taking food from the box, and stashing it in the ground. And another pair of argumentative chaffinch.

A Red Squirrel on the ground, among the ivy leaves, looking to hide [or find] some if his stash. He is facing to the left, and his tail is curved up over his back. He’s a reddish brown colour with tufty ears and big eyes.

Three long tailed tits on a fatball feeder. They are black white and have brown markings on their backs. They have tiny faces and teeny scary beaks. Their tails are at least as long as they are, and are used to balance or prop them against trees and such.

Two chaffinch having an argument over who is boss, while a third looks on in the background. One on the right has its beak slightly open and is in a crouching posture. The other has its wings out, and feet barely on the long, while staring down the defensive one.
