"Erasing History: How Fascists Rewrite the Past to Control the Future" by Jason Stanley. My rating: 5 out of 5 stars.

Book description: “Erasing History: How Fascists Rewrite the Past to Control the Future” is a 2024 book by Yale philosophy professor Jason Stanley. It examines how authoritarian and fascist movements manipulate historical narratives, particularly through attacks on education, to erase marginalized perspectives and impose a singular, unifying myth that justifies oppression and power consolidation.

Professor Stanley argues that fascists target schools and universities to rewrite history, fostering grievances against imagined enemies while destroying shared democratic realities based on multiple viewpoints. He traces these tactics from historical examples like Nazi Germany to contemporary far-right efforts, highlighting funders, intellectual roots, and strategies like promoting national purity myths.

I would characterize this book as a powerhouse primer on the subject of fascism. Very down to earth and understandable.
