A curious ship graffiti on the memorial slab to Sion Prys, d. 1765, buried at Newborough (Pedr Sant) church, Anglesey.

I'm not sure what to make of the projection off the bow. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be interested to hear of them!

Sadly, as in many cemeteries, power-strimming is slowly (and sometimes quickly) damaging the surfaces of ground-set slabs. Church authorities should try and limit its use near such memorials.

@JanPV

Hm. First thought would be a hoisted dinghy, second idea some sort of aft dip net construction.

@walfischbucht It's the only example I've come across. Odd, isn't it?

@JanPV

It is.
(Another possibility: A result of the act of engraving, as the line was drawn upwards and left as such with a dinghy that was - meant - to be on the water. But the rigging is done quite well, so that also seems a bit doubtful.)

@walfischbucht Looking at it again, it seems the stern is much more akin to a bow. If that was so, maybe the extended line was a bowsprit initially, but the plan was changed around? The 'boat' could then be the Martingale, with its rigging rather simplistically drawn?
