Oh SHIT! It's on, Bitwig. You've got an Ableton-like competitor in the #LinuxAudio space that is way better than you at normal audio recording, mixing, and editing.

@alisynthesis it will take us a little bit before I really want Ardour compared to Bitwig for what Bitwig is REALLY good at, but we will get there, no question.

Meanwhile, do the normal stuff :))

@PaulDavisTheFirst that makes total sense and frankly, I really, really value Ardour for how well it handles normal audio stuff. Bitwig does not even come close on that front.

But if you want to make electronic music with only your computer, Bitwig is pretty hard to beat! 🙂

@PaulDavisTheFirst also, I will admit that my original post was a little melodramatic. doggo_laugh

But I am excited to see that side of Ardour growing because I think clips (and all that that entails) are really useful tools for lots of people.

@alisynthesis and it looks like compared to bitwig v6, better multi-track note editing

I wonder if it can handle outboard effects and modular integration as well as BW

@mattly I mean, modular integration is kind of Bitwig's thing, so I feel like it would be a much bigger move, but these changes look really fun.

Although, who knows? As I've gotten more familiar with Ardour, I've grown to like it more and more, and have found ways to do things that I didn't know you could do with it. The logic of it and its flexibility are pretty impressive.

@alisynthesis cool does it do the warping function that Ableton does? Because as a bad musician, I love the way Ableton can quantize my audio tracks.

@CheapPontoon I don't know. That has typically been a little bit out of Ardour's wheelhouse, but it sounds like they're moving a bit in that direction.

I feel like the article would make a bigger deal out of that if it was in there, but I'm gonna check it out. I'll try to remember to come back here and update if I find anything interesting.
