Just got notified from the American Astronomical Society that their survey on anticipated impacts of Reflect Orbital (whose business model is "we will beam sunlight down to Earth at night because woo space”; never mind the titanic impacts on circadian rhythms of every living thing on the planet) has really gained traction.

DarkSky International has an open letter you can sign, and we expect a public comment period from the FCC on this in the next few weeks. Hit up public.policy@aas.org if you have questions. #space #astronomy

@darkuncle @sundogplanets Not just the dark sky impact. We're already overheating as a planet, if anything we need to block more incoming radiation . Which isn't easy but is better than adding more.

@ariaflame @darkuncle @sundogplanets and: this all assumes it works as planned. When it doesn't: what damage will it do? Blinding drivers? Disrupting whale migrations? Upsetting the already delucate balance of our pollinators? What possibilities have we not foreseen? 😥

@deborahh @ariaflame @sundogplanets I was reading a paper just a few months ago about the impact of artificial lighting on plant activity related to circadian rhythms; this affects trees, grasses, flowers, and so much more as well
