There are lots of satellites here in the southern skies too. But the stars behind the satellites are absolutely incredible! The Milky Way was absurdly bright! The Magellenic Clouds were so easy to see! WOOOOWWWWW

There appear to be hints of aurora in your photos too.
@zl2tod I think it's just skyglow
Purple and red are pretty unusual colours for skyglow, and the timing was pretty good last night.
@sundogplanets Being blind I can never remember the whole crescent moon orientation, but I'm told it looks disconcertingly wrong from the hemosphere you're not used to seeing it in. Any moon sightings, it's heading toward crescent.
@ChristineMalec Orion was upside down last night. I haven't gotten a good look at the moon yet!
@sundogplanets 😍 Sounds like you're having an epic stargazing sesh! The Milky Way looking vivid and those Magellanic Clouds being visible is like, the ultimate cosmic experience 💫. Were you in a super dark spot or did you have any cool gear to spot all the deets?
@sundogplanets I need to go to New Zealand. Even more so after following the wonderful @georgepenney .
@sundogplanets Hello, Good day and how is the climate over there??
@sundogplanets when I first moved to NZ 20 years ago I remember stepping outside one night, looking up, and thinking “strange to see clouds stretched across the sky like that” until I quickly realized it was the Milky Way. And this was North Shore Auckland, just across the bridge. When you get away from the light pollution of Auckland it is indeed mind blowingly dark.
Hope you might get lucky with an aurora show while you are in NZ.
@sundogplanets Hete’syour photos run through my #TurboScan:

@sundogplanets
Great captures - so enjoyed seeing them & reading your enjoyment. 😁
@sundogplanets Jealous, once again.
@sundogplanets As a stargazer in the northern hemisphere I've always dreamed of seeing the southern skies!
@sundogplanets Now imagine Musk's planned 1'000'000 additional "satellites". 🤦🏾♂😤
It's also so taken for granted down here by so many - what we know so what ee expect and are then astonished when people describe how little they can ser
@sundogplanets Highly envious of your views from the southern hemisphere.
@sundogplanets Beautiful photos – could you describe your technique? lens/aperture/exposure time?
@sundogplanets
A long time ago — when I was still a small child — I visited parts of Europe that did not have street lighting at the time. Deep in the night, I could find my way home while enjoying the beautiful night sky. When the moon was full, the ancient footpaths seemed to glow.
@sundogplanets Yes! So much this. As someone who grew up in Brazil, the night sky over there "has so much more stars" than in Canada.
@sundogplanets I miss the milky way, not seen it in so long 😢
@sundogplanets I'm so glad we turned on the decent summer weather for your visit. January was miserable for stargazing.
Ohhhh that's so beautiful! ✨✨✨✨✨
@sundogplanets I remember going on road trips in NZ, loved staying at camp sites in the middle of nowhere just for the night sky.
@sundogplanets wow! great pics!!!!!!
