@rl_dane since I use it along with vim to preview my latex papers, I didn't even know that they can read epubs :o

@rl_dane Having read things on computer screens for a very long time, I have to say the experience of reading on a proper e-ink screen is no comparison. I don't really think the software you use would make any difference. Unless your complaint is with something beyond the very basics ;)
The only serious downside from my perspective is that you can't really "flip through" an ebook.
@rl_dane Check out the Pine Note if you haven't. Looks like a pretty decent bit of hardware for reading.
@90sScriptKiddiw @rl_dane I should check them out again... last I remember, their phones were basically a very expensive DIY kit, but that was a few years ago and this looks pretty good. I currently have a Boox Note 5, which I love, but that's something to look into if it ever dies.
My biggest hesitation would be that Pine gives off strong "it's open, and that's all that matters" vibes with all their products. i.e. figure out your own UX cuz we sure didn't. But here's a device anyways.

Yeah, I had/have a Pinebook Pro. It was a wonderful little device for the price, but of course, there were rough edges.
just a heads up if you ever do use Calibre:
lock to version 8.10 – 8.11.1 introduced “Ask AI” and Kovid Goyal is not backing down :-/

Only if it's compiled against the mupdf library. The poppler pdf version that ships with #debian-based distros sadly can't. :'(
#FreeBSD and #Arch-based distros have the mupdf version available. I don't recall if #Fedora does.
But you can always just install mupdf, and it's almost as good as Zathura as a reader program.
@rl_dane I'm with the standard debian install, but I just installed mupdf and I like it :)
One for preview papers (and present beamer presentations) and the other for the ebooks 💪
