Ugh, it looks like the #Ottawa Public Library has decided to carry When Kids Say They're Trans by Sasha Ayad.
It's basically hate material from a UK "gender critical" from a group called Genspect. It's all about denying trans youth their own identities from people who support, among other things, conversion therapy.
Not terribly surprised, since they also carry the awful Irreversible Damage, but still disappointing to see.
@Nezchan and the board chair is a both slider who doesn’t believe in removing anything because “everyone should be able to be reflected in the library”. Even if it’s hate speech.
Honestly I'm not shocked by that.
Managed to find a feedback form and complained, although by the sounds of it they will hurry up and do nothing.
Super fun how OPL doesn't allow you to flag inappropriate books, only comments. So there's no simple way to object to what's essentially hate speech in print form.
