This might be a slightly different example.
Craig Ferguson when he was doing his late night show said that Letterman production company 'owned' the two hours of TV time that were Letterman's Show and the hour afterwards. Ferguson said this freed him from lots of Network interference and Dave was his ultimate Boss and very hands off. He even played on it having a Faux network executive character appear many times to stop bits of the show.

Even the subtle crud, in the segment yesterday he mentions a CBS show, and then basically says "I don't care if you watch it, I leave in May".

Yeah, unions in Hollywood and film industry are so much stronger than in other sectors.

@blogdiva His contract will end this spring anyway, which is probably they aren’t rushing any reactions. Once he is off CBS and over on whatever platform he goes to - Nebula, YouTube, what have you - CBS will have a hard time replacing him.

@blogdiva Indeed, when Kimmel's network tried to pull him off the air, it was immediate--the wrong people were mad, so they just yanked him.

@blogdiva Absolutely. Although I haven't worked in the industry for a number of years (and honestly may never again), I still pay my SAG-AFTRA dues every 6 months, because I believe in having the strongest possible union.
