We mix our tracks on #Arch #Linux (in a #SteamDeck) but we only need minimal stuff in #Ardour. Mastering runs through #Bottles. But if you need more plugins check the article.

I have been spending some time making a lot of Windows Audio Plugins work on my Linux laptop, running CachyOS.

It took some time finding the approach giving me the most stable solution, without needing too much setup. To me the answer was wine-cachyos and Yabridge.

I have tried to collect all my notes and experiences in a blogpost, in case others are searching for a solution.

@fearskaper you're the second mentioning running parts of your audio work "inside" of Wine. That's very interesting.

@mosgaard Yes, our mastering "software" (more or less a simplified GUI of probably only a chained limiter and bandwidth compressor for people who do not know what they do, like us) is running on Windows. If you have a good recommendation for a simple mastering software that runs natively on Linux, let us know please.

@fearskaper I'm mastering my own stuff in Bitwig, relying on a mix of native Linux and Windows plugins, but I'm in no way a pro mastering engineer.

Someone mentioned running Sequoia using Wine the other day, so what could also be an option.

@mosgaard It would probably also possible to use Ardour for the mastering but we do not have enough knowledge to do so 😉 Replacing one Windows software by another one like Sequoia sounds not like a real solution. For our demo recordings we mainly need some "make it fat and loud" switch that is easy to use.

@fearskaper I use bx_limiter true peak or the bx_masterdesk plugins for that, both running through Wine.

It's really nice with these "do something smart under the hood"-things when you don't really know how it's working :D
