I had previously removed Firefox from all of my Linux hardware because of Mozilla's embracing of AI. With the announcement of the AI "kill switch", I decided to download and install the recently released Firefox 148. After installing Firefox, I can confirm that the kill switch is present and does work (from what I can tell, anyway). I have to give Mozilla credit for doing what they said they would do and allow their users to disable all AI "features", but I'm still not happy that they've jumped onboard the horrible AI train. I'm torn between leaving this latest release of Firefox on my hardware or removing it because of its use of AI, even though we can disable it.

@cmccullough What did you replace Firefox with?

@tfb For many years, I've been using Vivaldi. It is Chromium-based and not 100% Open Source, so this does bother me a bit. I am also running Librewolf as my main browser.

@cmccullough Librewolf or Waterfox seems like the only real alternative that isn't cutting off your nose to spite your face. I do hope that Servo eventually becomes usable.

@cmccullough Weirdly, I'm not seeing any AI with FF either in Android or PC. Is it just me being dozy? Some EU thing?...

@davep You know, it might be an EU thing. You know our privacy laws here in the US are terrible.

@cmccullough
Thanks.for verifying that, as far as you can.

I've removed Fx from all my devices; they want to be an "ai" company, they can get in the "ai" hole.

When I need not-chrome I should be able to find an "ai" free Fx fork and give them my user data, such as it may be, instead.

@cmccullough I'm not going back. They've been quite clear with their priorities and they don't line up with what I want out of a browser.

@SharpCheddarGoblin I think I am going to have to agree with you and will be removing it.
