Subject: OPPOSED: SB26-051 Age Attestation on Computing Devices
Hello,
I am one of your constituents, and I am contacting you to express my vigorous opposition to this senate bill. We need more privacy and data protections, not more intrusions and restrictions. We are already subject to far too much invasive surveillance from the commercial services we are forced to use in the course of every day life, and the dangerous demands of our current presidential administration for user data to track (and presumably control and punish) the free speech of US citizens should shine a bright light on why this kind of user tracking is a very bad idea, and opposed to the principles of personal freedom written into the Constitution of the United States.
From the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Age Verification and Age Gating Resource page
"Age verification technology itself is often inaccurate and privacy-invasive. These restrictive mandates strike at the foundation of the free and open internet. They are tools of censorship, used to block people from viewing or sharing information that the government deems 'harmful' or 'offensive.' And they create surveillance systems that critically undermine online privacy, chill access to vital online communities and resources, and burden the expressive rights of adults and young people alike."
Please oppose this dangerous effort to undermine the privacy and digital freedom of the citizens of Colorado.
Thank you.
