I've never been on normal social media so I don't know etiquette, but where do Fedizens stand on replying to someone's post and adding a hashtag?

Example: Someone talking about animals and I reply with #animals .

Is that considered rude at all? Is this something we should try to do? Social tagging? Crowd sourced tagging?

Since there aren't really algorithms it's on us to help build out and make connections we want to see.

This thing takes more work than traditional social, because we didn't take shortcuts. But we have the opportunity to learn new ways of building out OUR network.

@ozoned I wouldn't mind if you would do that. I still tend to forget hashtags and therefore will be grateful.

@ozoned I think this would be okay, if it already had a tag in the post, usually. If there are no tags in the post, I don't think this is a good idea without asking; I often intentionally don't tag posts.

@ozoned I think the thing to do would be to ask OP (original poster) if it's okay if you really really think it should be tagged. At any rate, you shouldn't *just* reply with a single hashtag. In my opinion, that is definitely rude.

Maybe OP doesn't want it to be in the tag feed. Given the amount of tagging services and bots that are kinda harassing people via the tag.status stuff atm I think it's more important to check with the poster.

Basically, I don't think you should try and enact a blanket rule, but check on a case-by-case basis. It never hurts to ask.
