Goat morning
@sundogplanets Goaten Morgen Professor! (Don't be afraid, outside movies german is not always bad)
@sundogplanets your dogs are so cute and so lucky to have a fun job protecting their goat friends.
@sundogplanets Alice in Chain. Good one.
@sundogplanets Well, it ain't baaahhhhdddd.
@sundogplanets I'll see your goats and raise you a herd of Speckled Park (a breed originating in Saskatchewan) cows and calves.
@sundogplanets@mastodon.social tell the kids baaaaa. They'll understand.
@sundogplanets I see what you did there. And, I approve.
@sundogplanets I’d be careful of the small white one. He’s a troublemaker and trying to organise the others into a union.
Friends, I picked TWENTY SIX zucchinis this morning, after getting the first zucchini a week ago. Even though it's going to be very hot again today, I guess I'll turn on the oven to make some zucchini bread (to eat now and to freeze) and maybe freeze or dehydrate some shredded zucchini, but some will definitely end up being treats for the goats and chickens.
@sundogplanets, once more it took me far too long to remember what that's the almost-English word for…
@sundogplanets I would be happy to take people's homegrown zucchini, provided that they pick it before it grows massive and flavorless. But then, if I say that too loudly I will wind up with too much.
The view is good from the livestock guardian dog-hay-throne.
@sundogplanets the guardian dog looks very relaxed, but I'm sure they would jump into action the moment the goats start any funny business.
Chop, stir fry, freeze in portions.
@sundogplanets maybe the guy who planted all those zucchini plants should also “get“ to cook them
@avirr Oh he does, don't worry! (He just doesn't complain as much as me)
@sundogplanets I have a similar situation with my beans. I have picked and eaten so many broad beans in the last 10 days...I might be turning into a broad bean 😂
Friends of mine had a small farm, goats & chickens etc, and one summer had a bumper crop of massive zucchinis. In Owen Sound the police had been leaving notices inside unlocked cars to encourage locking. My friends and their kids descended on the town leaving a monster zucchini on the back seat of unlocked cars 🤣
LOL. so many bad things can happen if you leave your car unlocked in the wrong neighborhood. you could wind up with zucchinis, banjos, accordions, so much else.
@paul_ipv6 @teledyn @sundogplanets
Ok, leaving my car doors unlocked now
@teledyn @sundogplanets Putting zucchinis in people’s cars is hilarious
@EricFielding @teledyn I might try that next time I'm in the city...
@sundogplanets Fun fact: zucchini are just tiny versions of zucch.
@sundogplanets If you let courgettes grow very large (up to half a metre long) such that they get a pumpkin-like skin then you can store them in a cold cellar like pumpkins.
They last up to a few months if you keep an eye on them. If one end starts to look like it is going rotten then use the courgette straight away.
The flesh is more like pumpkin when you store a courgette in this way but is fine in stews or soups or indeed in courgette bread and other cakes.
@sundogplanets we made a lot of zucchini fritters over the last 2 weeks (4 plants, i'm an idiot 🤣)
Oh it’s been so long since we’ve had a zucchini glut that I’d forgotten about fritters.
So far we’re looking good for zucchini glut, but not there yet.~12 plants but some are not producing yet.
@MCDuncanLab @Hirundin Yep, have already made lots of zucchini fritters! I love zucchini, this is just.... a lot.
@sundogplanets you have a recipe for zuchini cake - do you?
@sundogplanets That's a lot of zucchini!
I just got my first zucchini and i'm going to make up some zuchini fritter and fry it in the waffle iron!
I've never done a vertical zucchini plant in a planter before, really neat way that worked for my balcony
@sundogplanets@mastodon.social @Crazypedia@pagan.plus yup! you make up the zucchini fritters with shredded zucchini, breadcrumbs, egg, herbs, and instead of pan frying or deep frying, put it in a waffle iron and you get crispy waffle textured fritters 😋 great for batches, they freeze and reheat well in a toaster or microwave
@sundogplanets whatbis zucchini bread? I do lasagne to freeze
@sundogplanets I thought about planting squash this year but every day my neighbor is putting out 2-5 squash so I’m just swinging by her free squash table.
It’s practically a good deed AND I get squash!
@sundogplanets Zucchini sauce for pasta? Make and freeze. Basically blend steamed zucchini and butter. Very good summer pasta.
@penpencilbrush @sundogplanets You can even make a sort of pasta-like thing (copypasta?) from zucchini. Slice it into thin strips and boil, surprisingly good.
@sundogplanets for a brief moment I thought that one goat was standing on top of the others, and I was totally and utterly impressed.
@sundogplanets
That looks to be a very goat-i-ful morning.
