Yesterday I posted a toot about #WSocial on this account (I typically talk about them on Mastodon, but I needed more than 500 characters, so I switched here). It was widely shared and discussed.

Some of you may have missed my articles critiquing W Social. I have been following them - with a critical eye - and collecting evidence since their soft launch at Davos in January: https://blog.elenarossini.com/tag/w-social/

Anyway, some of you mistook the tone of yesterday's toot and thought I was ENDORSING signing up for an account on W Social. In reality I was being sarcastic 🙃​

I will make sure to spell out my intentions much more clearly next time.

At any rate, my latest article about them made it to Hacker News yesterday (wild) and my research has been quoted in Dutch, German and French news outlets. The tide is finally turning (from fawning PR coverage to a more distanced, critical look).

Can't begin to state how pissed and stressed I am atm. We leave for vacation tomorrow. We booked through Expedia. Which includes adding in names and ages. It's booked through Delta. The flight is totally booked.

We never got to book our seats. It seemed we had to pick our seats at arrival to the airport or on getting on our flight. Just got an email, they put the four of us, mind you my wife, myself, and a 9 and 6 year old, all separate, in middle seats. I'll be damned with if I let my 9 and 6 year olds sit alone during their first flights ANYWHERE. And of course their support takes "on average" 37 minutes to respond. Wife opened a chat, and of course, nothing they can do, but they're certain that someone at the gate can help tomorrow.

I fucking hate travel. My father's response? "This is why I like driving". Yeah. 12 hours in a car is just dandy.

I am officially putting myself out there. I'll repost my dating profile which I shared via @JenJen's Owncast stream.

Can I just say, while we're all talking about a bug, and nothing is perfect, THIS is why I LOVE open source. 😊 Everyone collaborating, folks in each of their expert fields lending their experience. Love it. 😊

We can't let perfect get in the way of good. THIS is a step. Is it the step we'd maybe want? NOPE. But it's a STEP and I will ABSOLUTELY take it. He converts dozens more, they convert dozens more. ONE DROP AT A TIME.

Umm... holy shit? PewDiePie made an AI? IDK how real or true it is, someone give me your thoughts, BUT the fact he's talking about open source, the fact he's pushing for self hosting. Like... this is HUGE imo. Even showing he can try is incredible. He's influencing a generation. And while I never watched PewDiePie, I might just start.

@TCMuffin@toot.wales Honestly the feeling can't be described can it? You get to experience a first through their eyes. First to say a word, first to learn to read. I don't remember that feeling, but I get to feel it through my children. And it's just warmth in your heart. When you really stop and pay attention to them and really feel what they're feeling. It's fucking magical man.
