Loius Rossman is doing a "Own Your Sh*t" tour and he's coming to Raleigh and Steve from Gamers Nexus will be there. I already got a free ticket. It'd be awesome to have an open social web group to push for "Own Your Socials" as well.

FediCon/FOSSY 2026 Live Thread
Q: "the good thing about Pleroma is its easy to spin up, the bad news is its easy to spin up for trolls. How will you combat this?"
@evan@cosocial.ca "when you open up systems it means not everybody buys into the same behavioural norms... we have on the Fediverse a culture of manual and artisinal trust and safety mechanisms due to little trust in automated systems... we have a chance to be building these trust and safety systems (like @roost@hachyderm.io), but we're building them, and we're doing it step by step.
@ozoned@btfree.social advocates for trust chains and calls out to @benpate@mastodon.social's work on Endorsements

The panelists now asked which default server they'd recommend. These questions are hard!

Even @ozoned@btfree.social wasn't sure prior to the panel.
@evan@cosocial.ca suggesting that maybe you already have one and don't know; suggests checking your orgs and associations; possibly self-hosting or checking joinmastodon.org
@django@social.coop warns about checking Instance rules to align on values.
@ozoned@btfree.social suggesting Mastodon for twitter fans, Pixelfed for Instagram fans, forums for topical based discussions (plus a shoutout for ActivityPub.Space, thanks!)

I can't find any of the folks in the Fediverse, so if anyone finds them, please @ them. If we can't find them we should reach out and ask for them to join.
Also if folks are attempting to reach me here or on my firesidefedi@btfree.social , I'm not able to really check due to some server issue and lack of data connectivity. Feel free to reach me on embark, matrix or signal are best.
I'm doing some videos of the Vancouver trip in tubefree.org. I'm so my best to get pictures and video of everyone as well. If folks are interested.
Also Tracy, the head of FOSSY, said the presentations will be recorded and some will be live streamed. I'll get the link when I can, again if anyone is interested.
SUPER excited to announce that not only do I get to do a panel at #Fedicon2026 during #FOSSY2026 , but I now get to do my presentation on "The Fediverse Isn't..." !
I'm seriously SO excited. I hope people push back on my presentation, make points, ask questions. I want everyone walking away looking at the #Fediverse different and that includes me!
For those interested it'll be 2PM on Friday in the Fedicon room.
I hope to see you folks there and talk about the future of the open social web!
TITLE: The Fediverse Isn't...
ABSTRACT: There is a word we use loosely, sometimes carelessly. We point to servers, apps, instances, logos—and say this is it. But what if all of that is merely the furniture, not the house? What if we're measuring by the wrong units entirely?
What if the real thing—the actual Fediverse—cannot be found in any repository, cannot be forked from GitHub, cannot be described in a protocol specification?
It's not Mastodon. Not Pixelfed. Not Lemmy. Not your instance's uptime statistics or the purity of your ActivityPub implementation. These are vessels. Vessels can break, can fork, can fade into obscurity. Yet something persists through them all.
And here's the uncomfortable part: the walled gardens haven't left yet. They never did. The infrastructure exists for them to step across, to shed their walls, to breathe freely alongside everyone else. Whether they choose to is not a question of compatibility. It's a question of courage.
We have been building monuments when we should have been tending fires. Protocols don't gather. Servers don't trust each other. Tools don't make friends. People do. Communities do.
This talk will walk through what we've mistaken the Fediverse for—and more importantly, what remains hidden beneath our assumptions. We'll discuss why platform-building is a dead end, why community-building is the only path forward, and why choosing between ActivityPub and ATProto might be the very wrong battle to fight.
You came expecting answers. You'll leave with better questions. That's the point. #fedi #protocol #activitypub #ATProto #openSocial #twitter #bsky #facebook #openWeb #web #community #conference
I don't have a clue why I'd ever walk up to someone and introduce myself and say I have a daughter (which I don't), but if it's ever required! I'm READY!

Ever wanted to run your own #MMO #Guild via a #game #simulator ?
Then have your guild be in a tournament against other guilds?
bretticus82.itch.io/dungeons...
DUNGEONS & DYNASTIES
Football Manager meets D&D.
Heroes die. Dynasties rise. The realm remembers both.
Lead an adventuring guild through a living realm where every fixture is a dungeon, every hero can die in it, and every season is written down.
Climb a six-tier league of 72 rival guilds. Build something that outlasts the heroes who founded it. Then read your dynasty back as a story written by the simulation, not by a script.
The question isn't whether legends will be made.
It's whether your guild survives long enough to make them.
Just found out about @hister@chaos.social . seems like a brilliant idea if you set up a search and point all of your browsers to a central server with your custom index to easily find what you've already seen. This would be helpful for my family life.
But I also see that any community could use something like this and have their own search within their community and not that terrible Google search. Index only your pages and make the search accessible to your community and people can build help custom search indexes that target their needs.
Y'all, I have the best children in the world.
Asks me to put insight timer on his tablet so he can listen to relaxing music before bed. He only uses it for reading ATM.
Wife installs and it crashes. They ask me to look. I don't know how to fix it and told him I could try imaging the tablet to another OS, but I don't know if that'd fix it.
He says it's up to me, because he understands the work it takes to do.
Felt touched he even considered my feelings. And then I said maybe that shows how responsible at 9, maybe we could do a phone.
And then he blew me away again and said he doesn't want one. My wife said he actually understands the responsibility of having one and he's not ready for that.
My wife and I actually teared up. He's NINE! I'm so used to adults with the emotional maturity of a five year old.
@ozoned @gamingonlinux I'm not invested in gaming on Linux so I don't know all the details, but does Proton works without Steam? Can GOG just use Proton to do it for their games?
@rejzor@mastodon.social @gamingonlinux@mastodon.social Yup. Proton is built on top of WINE. GloriousEggroll actually has his own version of Proton that lots of folks use. And he, and others, are working on building a unifying layer akin to proton that anyone can use. github.com/Open-Wine-Compone...
So imagine you speak English, someone else speaks French. You need an interpreter. That's what Wine/Proton does.
Water fun before it gets too hot 🥵

Oh yea, me too.
Are there any fediverse developers working on the ability to see a website and then have a link I can click to share that article directly?
I just saw an article from @gamingonlinux@mastodon.world , gamingonlinux.com/2026/07/go... , and then had to go find the post to boost it.
Ideally there'd just be a button on the website I can click and it points me to the article on my Bonfire.
I wanna say someone was working on something like this. Just can't remember who. 😁
Maybe Maho Pacheco?
