Maybe the problem was with the specific PT service(s) you tried to use, rather than with the software?
I've never had any problems watching video on PT services. I haven't tried uploading anything more than a few minutes long. But people upload entire documentaries with no issues AFAIK;

@zotheca@mementomori.social I run TubeFree.org and put my Fireside Fedi VODs up there as well have having other folks put their content there. I haven't had too many issues. But it's a very difficult problem as it's not just Peertube itself, but I've had to help troubleshoot ISP blocks, Web browser issues, etc.
